Several months ago, some Filipino migrants in Korea through the initiative of Fr. Eugene formed a group and called it “Vision for a Better Tomorrow” (VFABT). This is the batch 2 of the reintegration program of Galilea. They are aspiring for a better future by working hand and hand as friends towards a common goal of uplifting their lives and the lives of their love ones. This group values the real meaning of hardship and savings for the future and thus they planned to build a resort in Panglao, Bohol, one of the leading tourist spots in the Philippines. They started saving for the investment capitalization by remitting monthly contributions that would sum up to 2 million won.

To continue their journey to success, a pre-membership seminar on Cooperative Development was held last March 11 and 18 at Women’s Welfare Center in Ansan. It aims to satisfy the requirement of the Cooperative Development Authority of the Philippines so that the group could be registered as a cooperative. By doing so, the group will be exempted from paying taxes. Dra. Gigi Salces came all the way from the Philippines to give the seminar attended by twenty-four of the group members. She is the business manager of the group and happened to be a certified CDA member qualified to give such kind of seminar. The group is very grateful for her effort and valuable support to help everything materialized especially in making the groups’ legal entity. The seminar was a big success because of the cooperation and active participation of the members even though most of them have not slept at that time due to night shift in their works. Metrobank, Galilea and Ansan NGOs sponsored the said seminar.
The group is continuously growing. VFABT is extending its arms not only to the Filipino parishioners from Ansan but also to those from Suwon Catholic church. After conducting a seminar on reintegration program last December, eight Filipinos from Suwon joined the group. In fact, two of them managed to attend the pre-membership seminar last March despite the distance. As of now, the group has sixty-three members. Each member is required to complete their 2 million won total contributions on or before the end of June except for the new members who were given until the end of September. The officers of the group expressed their willingness to accept more members as long as they could comply with the requirements on time.

Moreover, to further make the ball of success rolling, the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the planned resort in Bohol was scheduled this coming June 5. Fr. Eugene and a group of representatives from the project donors and benefactors will grace the occasion. Necessary preparations are now being undertaken most especially on the financial aspect. The officers of the group hope to collect the bulk of the contributions before the groundbreaking ceremony to ensure a steady cash flow during the constructions. On the other hand, Fr. Eugene with the help of Sis Theresa has been raising some funds from donors and benefactors that could help in building the resort. These donations are considered investments however, their proceeds will go to a foundation which will be decided by the group in due time. Some other Filipinos and Koreans also expressed their willingness to be investors.
With all these at hand, the group believes that success is just a few steps away. Each members hold on to their vision: “We work to save, we save to invest and we invest for a better tomorrow”.
