The Galilea Center for Education and Development located in Panglao, Bohol had its soft opening last December 1, 2007. The opening was held barely 5 months after its groundbreaking ceremony in June this year. It was called soft opening because there are still buildings to be completed.
The opening was graced by the presence of Korean benefactors and donors along with Korean artists. A couple of concerts were held, first at the Holy Name University in Tagbilaran City and second at the Galilea Center in Panglao.
At the opening rites, the celebration of the Eucharist was held officiated by Rev. Fr. Eugene Docoy, SVD joined by the local parish priest. Nanay Tina, the president of the cooperative, did not make it to the opening as she was not feeling well in Manila. Before the end of the mass, the buildings were blessed. The mass was followed by the cutting of ribbons, unveiling of the marker and a simple program. A simple meal was served after the program.
In the evening of the opening day, a concert by the Korean artists was held to delight the barrio folks. After the concert was a disco for all. It rained during the disco but it didn’t dampen the celebration.
It takes us so long to reach this far. The sacrifices and hard labor among members and officers of the cooperative during the past two years are indeed bearing fruit. There are still a lot more to be done at the Center but hope for the future abounds. Welcome to Galilea Center for Education and Development. This is our project! We are proud for the success we have reached so far.
